“ENERGY EFFICIENCY: Insights from Energy Efficiency Alberta”.
This presentation will start with a brief summary of the barriers to energy efficiency and the roles for all levels of governments with particular comments on the built environment. It will then summarize the experience of Energy Efficiency Alberta. Appendices to the presentation will includes slides the author has found useful in talking to the public about climate change and the importance of energy efficiency.
- is an Adjunct Professor at York University where he teaches courses on energy efficiency and sustainability and has written a free on-line text book on energy efficiency policy and programs. He also serves on several corporate and non-profit boards including Energy Efficiency Alberta, Ontario Climate Consortium (Chair), Toronto 2030 District (Chair Advisory Committee), Royal Canadian Institute for Science (past Chair) and Rethink Sustainability (one of founding directors). Previous roles have included Chief Energy Conservation Officer of Ontario, co founder of Summerhill Group, founding President of the Energy Services Association of Canada and founding President of EnerQuality Corporation (delivers the R-2000 and Energy Star for Houses programs in Ontario). He started his career as a member of the team at Pollution Probe in the 70’s that developed the 3 R’s: reduce, reuse, recycle.
