The Southeast Alberta Energy Diversification Strategy (SEEDS)
Sandra will be discussing the Southeast Alberta Energy Diversification Strategy (SEEDS), a unique regional collaboration including municipalities, government, innovation and economic development organizations, and post-secondary focused on understanding and preparing for large-scale solar and wind projects in SE Alberta.

SE Alberta’s abundant solar and wind resources have attracted renewable energy development companies to the region. As of the end of 2017, of the 127 large-scale (over 1MW) solar and wind projects on the AESO queue, 61 of them – or 48% – were planned for SE Alberta. Sandra will be discussing the economic impacts these projects could have on SE Alberta and how the SEEDS group is working together to raise awareness in the region of these potential impacts.

Sandra Moore - from Medicine Hat, Alberta - is a Ph.D. Candidate in the School of Environment and Sustainability at the University of Saskatchewan where her research focuses on understanding the socio-economic impacts of the oil and gas industry on rural communities. She is also a Research Consultant and works with municipalities, post-secondary institutions, non-profit organizations, and economic development associations to help them better understand the impacts of renewable energy. Additionally, Sandra is a board member with Energy Efficiency Alberta and sits on numerous panels and committees related to energy and business.
