Upcoming EMTF Event: Our ninth presentation of the term, Wednesday May 6th, will be in person by Brent Preston.

Radon Gas in Canadian Residents - will cover information on radon gas including what radon is and why it is harmful and a discussion around limits in both residential and occupational settings. Information will also be provided regarding radon risk in Canada as well as testing kits, testing protocols and mitigation strategies.

Brent Preston - is the Director of Health Standards for the Occupational Health and Safety Branch within the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety. In this role, he oversees the radiation safety and occupational hygiene units which enforce The Saskatchewan Employment Act, The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020 and The Radiation Health and Safety Regulations, 2024.

Mr. Preston is also the Saskatchewan member on the Federal Provincial Territorial Radiation Protection Committee. This committee serves to advance the development and harmonization of practices and standards for radiation protection within Canadian jurisdictions.

Prior to joining government, Mr. Preston was a manager/scientist at the Radiation Safety Institute of Canada’s National Laboratories for six years, before moving to northern Saskatchewan to be the radiation coordinator for Cameco’s Rabbit Lake Uranium Mine.

Mr. Preston holds a BSc (Hons) in Physics from the University of Winnipeg and a MSc in Theoretical Physics from the University of Guelph.
