Presentation – Climate Change Update
Taking a global perspective, Peter will examine the observed impacts of climate change on human settlements and the natural environment, with a particular focus on the events of 2017-18 and the larger trends they highlight. He will review recent scientific literature on climate change, discuss the climate change linkages to recent major weather events, provide evidence that climate change is accelerating, and discuss the scale of the greenhouse gas emission reduction needed to reach the Paris Agreement temperature objectives. Peter will highlight some GHG emission reduction success stories, and will also discuss the grave risks posed by delaying serious emission reduction any longer, particularly the risks posed by self-reinforcing feedback loops.
This presentation builds on the one Peter did for EMTF in 2016. All slides will be new material.
